Abstract
This article is a review of the book entitled the Second Wave of authoritarian modernity in Iran by Saeed Leilaz. This work is the result of a research by the author and one of the few books on contemporary economic history of Iran that analyzes development plans before the Islamic Revolution. Four chapters are relatively large and the fourth chapter repeats the contents of the previous three chapters.
In terms of the content, the book has been successful in analyzing third to fifth development plans and has provided good analysis, but along with macroeconomic indicators, it has paid less attention to people's lives. Pervasive corruption in it, as well as the regime's tyranny and repression of the opposition and the closed political space of universities and dealing with intellectuals repression and the Shah's dependence on the Americans, and open confrontation with the clergy and the religious beliefs of the people and the like, all of which have been effective in bringing the political structure and the ruling system to a standstill to prove the researcher's hypothesis that the implementation of economic plans in a dictatorial manner has led to a political stalemate. In this regard, there can be some shortcomings in the book.
