Aim
The Iranian Review of Economic Studies (IRES) is an international, peer-reviewed journal dedicated to the critical examination, analytical evaluation, and scholarly reinterpretation of foundational, influential, and paradigm-shifting texts in economics. The journal serves as a premier academic forum for rigorous engagement with major theories, canonical literature, landmark articles, and intellectual traditions that have shaped the evolution of economic inquiry.
IRES aims not merely to summarize or reproduce established ideas, but to subject them to systematic critique, contextual interpretation, and methodological assessment. Furthermore, the journal seeks to bridge historical economic thought with contemporary global challenges, encouraging scholars to evaluate how classical and seminal texts hold up against modern empirical evidence, advanced analytical tools, and the specific realities of emerging and developing economies.
Scope
The journal welcomes original contributions that critically engage with seminal works across all major fields and traditions of economics. We particularly encourage submissions that move beyond descriptive reviews toward deep critique, conceptual reconstruction, and theoretical clarification.
The scope of IRES encompasses, but is not limited to, the following core areas:
1. Critical Re-evaluations of Canonical Texts: In-depth reviews and deconstructions of landmark books, foundational journal articles, and transformative texts that have defined disciplinary boundaries.
2. Theoretical and Paradigmatic Assessments: Analytical evaluations of major economic theories and conceptual frameworks across competing schools of thought (e.g., Classical, Neoclassical, Keynesian, Marxian, Austrian, Institutionalist, Behavioral, and Post-Keynesian traditions).
3. Methodological and Epistemological Scrutiny: Critiques of the methodologies, assumptions, and philosophies underlying influential economic literature.
4. Contextual and Historical Dynamics: Historical studies of texts that have played a transformative role in the development of economic thought, sociology of knowledge, and policy frameworks.
5. Contemporary Relevance and Global Perspectives: Reassessments of influential economic arguments in light of current policy debates, with a special interest in how these foundational texts apply to the contexts of developing economies and emerging markets.
6. Interdisciplinary Critiques: Examinations of key economic texts drawing on insights from the philosophy of science, history of ideas, political economy, and related disciplines.
Manuscript Types Accepted
To fulfill its mission, IRES considers the following types of submissions:
- Critical Review Articles: Comprehensive reassessments of major theoretical traditions or landmark publications.
- Methodological Essays: Deep-dives into the ontological and epistemological foundations of specific economic texts.
- Comparative Analyses: Studies contrasting different schools of thought or evaluating foundational texts against modern empirical findings.
By fostering critical dialogue on the most influential literature in economics, IRES aspires to advance a more reflective, historically informed, and methodologically self-conscious understanding of the discipline globally.
